How our Utility Billing Works!
Alpine City reads the water meters twice a year, once in March and once in September. Residents who don’t have pressurized irrigation available to them, such as residents in Box Elder and parts of Willow Canyon, have an additional reading in mid-summer. The other utility bills in the year, excluding April and October, are based on an average of the previous year’s water usage during the same period of time.
For example: if you used 48,000 gallons from October 1st to March 31st in the previous year. To figure out the your monthly bill you divide the total period by 6 months which would equal 8,000 per month, so you would be billed for 8,000 gallons per month in the current period.
The March and September water meter reads may affect your April and October utility bill due to adjustments to the water usage. If you used more water than you were billed, then your April and October bill will be higher or, if you used less water than you were billed, your utility bill will be lower in April and October.
Your sewer is calculated once a year and is based on your water meter reading from October 1st through March 31st. The Alpine City Utility Department has adopted new policy procedures (Resolution R2005-02). For delinquent accounts, water service will be shut-off 60 days after billed and a shut-off notice will be sent 45 days after billed.
In addition to the new shutoff policy, the City will now be charging a $100.00 deposit on all new hook ups. After a year the $100.00 deposit will be refunded if the account is kept current with no delinquencies.
READING YOUR WATER BILL
Alpine City has implemented a new style of utility bill. With this change, it is a good time to remind all utility account customers of our billing process.
Water – You are billed based on your average usage 10 months out of the year. The meter is then read in March and September (also July for those where PI is not available, ie. Box Elder and some Willow Canyon areas) and you are then billed for the difference in usage.
Sewer – charges are $8.40 base + $1.30 per 1,000 gallons of water used on your winter (March) read.
Garbage - Charge for the first can is $10.31 and $4.23 for each additional can. Curb side recycling is $4.50 for the first can and $3.50 for each additional cans.
EMT (Police and Fire protection) – $1.00 each month.
Irrigation – is charged year round and is figured on the square footage of the lot.
Storm Drain – fee is $3.30 each month.
Penalty – will be charged when account balance is not paid by the next billing cycle. Accounts will receive a disconnect notice when they are 45 days past due, and are subject to disconnection when they are 60 days past due.
Online and Direct payments are now available at no extra cost. If you have signed up for these services you will still receive a paper bill in the mail each month.
